RDC presents 5th annual Indigenous Perspectives Conference

Jan 31, 2021 | 2:00 PM

Red Deer College will host the 5th annual Indigenous Perspectives Conference this coming week.

The even will happen entirely virtually on Feb 4-5, and is open to RDC students as well as the public.

In a release, RDC says the event is designed to enhance awareness and knowledge of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and culture on the path of truth and reconciliation.

“RDC Education students will be provided with a wealth of resources and teachings about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures that will be essential understandings for these future teachers. Opening the conference on Thursday, February 4, a Project of Heart created by the RDC Middle Years graduates of 2021 will be unveiled,” the college says.

“This commemorative art piece honours the Indigenous peoples who suffered the damaging effects of the Residential School System. Through this act of reconciliation, Red Deer College learners acknowledge the history of residential schools while depicting the resilience and strength of all those affected. This collection of tiles, arranged by the RDC Visual Arts team, will be blessed at the opening ceremony, which begins at 4:00 p.m.”
