Red Deer active cases down by 10 to 163, but one new death

Alberta is reporting 643 news cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total number of active cases in our province now to 9,987 – down 269 from yesterday.

With 13,019 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s positivity rate presently sits at 4.9 per cent.

Since the start of the pandemic, 119,757 Albertans have contracted coronavirus, while 108,258 have recovered.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 currently number 691 – down 35 from yesterday, while 115 patients are in ICU – down four from Thursday.

Twelve more deaths have also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 1,512.

Three of those deaths were reported in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, including a female in her 80s on Jan. 19, a male in his 80s linked to the outbreak at Seasons Camrose on Jan. 19, and a female in her 50s on Jan. 20.

In the City of Red Deer, there are 163 active cases of COVID-19 – down 10 from Thursday, while 1,565 have recovered. The number of deaths, however, has increased by one, to 18.

Coronavirus outbreaks in the city have currently been identified at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Etana Wells group home, Extendicare Michener Hill, a private group home, Points West Living, Love, Fun & Learning Day Home, Olymel, Red Deer Remand Centre, Walmart (South Location), Wonderflow School House, and Montair Aviation in Springbrook.

Throughout central Alberta, Red Deer County has 36 active cases – down two from Thursday and still one recorded death.

Sylvan Lake has 19 active cases – down two from Thursday and still two recorded deaths.

Lacombe County has 20 active cases – down one from Thursday and still one recorded death, while the city of Lacombe has 23 active cases – up one from Thursday and also still one recorded death.

Additionally, there are 85 active cases in Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) – down four from Thursday, 246 active cases in Ponoka County – down 33 from Thursday, and still eight recorded deaths, 22 active cases in Mountain View County – up two from Thursday, while Olds has 13 active cases – up one from the day before. Kneehill County has six active cases – down one from Thursday, and still three recorded deaths from the virus, while Stettler and County has five active cases and still two recorded deaths as of Friday.

For local schools, an Alert has now been issued for Ecole Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School with two to four cases identified, while an Alert also remains in place for Ecole John Wilson Elementary School in Innisfail with 2-4 cases as well.

Elsewhere, there are 3,839 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 3,511 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 1,366 in the North Zone, 849 in the AHS Central Zone, 411 in the South Zone, and 11 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.
