Snowfall warning issued with 10-25 cm expected

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for much of the bottom half of Alberta.

Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres is expected. Heavy snow will move into southwestern Alberta today then spread north and eastward through tonight. Snow will end by Tuesday evening.

Beginning Tuesday morning, strong winds are expected to cause poor visibility in blowing snow for areas east and south of Calgary.

Meteorologists say to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions which may have a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Motorists are advised to take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.

The snowfall warning is in effect for areas including:

– City of Red Deer

– Red Deer County

– Lacombe County near Lacombe, Blackfalds and Bentley, Clive, Alix and Mirror, Eckville

– Ponoka County near Ponoka and Maskwacis

– County of Stettler near Botha and Gadsby, Byemoor and Endiang, Donalda, Big Valley, Stettler near Stettler, Nevis and Rochon Sands

– Brazeau County near Brazeau Dam, Cynthia and Lodgepole

– Clearwater County near Caroline and James River Bridge, Rocky Mtn House and Crimson Lake

– O’Chiese 203 Res. and Clearwater County near Sunchild Cree Res.

– Yellowhead County near Minnow and Wolf Lakes and Elk River

– Flagstaff County near Forestburg and Galahad

– Camrose County near Bashaw and Meeting Creek

– County of Paintearth near Halkirk and Big Knife Prov. Park
