Red Deer rental rates remain among lowest in Canada

Red Deer has once again been identified as having some of the most affordable rental rates in the country.

According to the latest National Rent Report by Rentals.ca, Red Deer finished 33rd on the list of 35 cities with an average monthly rent of $953 for a one-bedroom home – up 4.6 per cent from October but down 3.1 per cent from a year ago.

A two-bedroom unit in Red Deer rented for an average of $1,018 per month – down half a per cent from October and seven per cent from November last year.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 24th on the list with a one-bedroom renting for an average of $1,173 per month, while two-bedrooms rented for an average of $1,480.

Edmonton placed 28th on the list with an average rent of $1,022 per month in November. Two-bedrooms rented for an average of $1,268.

Grande Prairie placed 30th on the list with an average rent of $959 per month, while two-bedrooms rented for an average of $1,117.

Lethbridge placed 32nd on the list with an average rent of $953 per month, while two-bedrooms in the windy city rented for an average of $1,112.

Lloydminster, which placed 35th on the list, recorded an average rent of $751 per month for a one-bedroom residence, while two-bedrooms in the border city rented for an average of $909.

Although not included on the list, Fort McMurray’s average monthly rent for a one-bedroom home in November was $1,026, while a two-bedroom was $1,199.

Airdrie was also not on the list of cities, but reported average monthly rents for a one-bedroom in November at $1,139, while the average monthly rent for a two-bedroom was $1,362.

Toronto topped the list of Canadian cities for its rental rates, with one bedroom units renting for an average of $1,877 per month. Two-bedroom units in The Big Smoke rented for an average of $2,468 last month.
