Rocky town council approves 2021 budget with no increase in tax and utility rates

Rocky Mountain House town council has passed the balanced 2021 Operating and Capital Budget with total revenues of $30,121,308 and a total of $26,519,387 expenditures.

The budget holds the line on municipal property tax and utility rates.

After council’s budget deliberations on December 2 and 3, multiple projects were removed from the budget such as the dressing room expansion for the newly created splash park as the town awaits further study and review.

The North Saskatchewan River Park infield upgrades that were to total $70,000 were also removed as it to awaits further study to insure the structure can be certified as structurally sound.

Financial contribution from Clearwater County towards the Lagoon Blower Block replacement, Lagoon Grinder replacement and the assistance of $13,750 for the Rec Software and Pool HVAC taken into account.

The Town’s assessment values have risen from last year to $915,676,490, with an increase of $4.2 million in non-residential. However, there was a decrease of $831,000 in residential assessment.

Currently, the average assessment for a residential home in town is $250,068 and the average tax for that home is $3,037, 76% of the dollars go to the town while, the rest is for educational and seniors’ requisitions.

Capital projects have gone up this year to just over $10 million, a large portion of that is for the new airport terminal which Clearwater County will be covering half of the cost of that nearly $2 million future project.
