Nov 22, 2020 | 9:42 PM

École H.J. Cody High School in Sylvan Lake has paused in-school classes for the next two days due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

Parents were informed on Sunday of three new confirmed cases in individuals from the school, which brings their positive case total to six.

As a result, H.J. Cody is pausing in-school classes for Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24 and moving to online learning.

School administration has contacted parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff, who may have been in close contact with the additional cases from the school.

A further update is expected Tuesday afternoon.

“While this is a challenging time, it is important that we work through this together,” Principal Mike Garrow told parents in a letter.

Custodial staff has been directed to conduct enhanced and disinfecting cleaning protocols within the building.

Sylvan Lake has 18 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday and is on the province’s enhanced status list, meaning additional public health measures are in effect.
