Alberta shortlists private partner bidders for Blackfalds high school

Nov 5, 2020 | 11:22 AM

The provincial government has shortlisted three qualified groups to deliver five new high schools, including one in Blackfalds, through a public-private partnership (P3).

In a release, the province says the groups invited to participate in the request for proposals (RFP) are Alberta Partnership for Learning, Concert-Bird Partners and Plenary-Maple High Schools.

“We have talented, experienced teams right here in Alberta who can help build the schools Albertans need. I am confident that this process will provide savings for Alberta taxpayers while ensuring our students have world-class schools to learn and grow in,” said Infrastructure Minister Prasad Panda “Next fall, we will have a successful P3 contract in place with shovels in the ground for these five much-needed high schools.”

“I’m delighted we’ve reached another significant milestone in getting these five high school projects built. Building new schools for our students is one of the most important investments we can make for the future of this great province.” – Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education

The province says the RFP process will be completed in July 2021 with contracts with the successful partner in place by the end of September.

Officials say proposals will be examined for each consortium’s capacity to complete the project and to ensure its bid provides Alberta taxpayers with good value for dollars spent.

The five new high schools, which also include Leduc, Langdon and two in Edmonton, are anticipated to open in September 2024 with a total student capacity of about 6,938 students.
