Individual cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at two more schools in Red Deer.

On Saturday, letters were sent to parents of students at Westpark Middle School and Annie L. Gaetz Elementary, each citing one case.

Each letter notes that neither individual from the respective schools were infectious while at school.

“Consequently students and staff in the classes of the infected person will not be required to isolate. As this individual followed the correct protocol and stayed home when ill, our staff and students will continue their learning as per normal,” the letters say. “AHS will work with the individual to identify non-classroom related close contacts and will advise those affected outside the classroom of any measures that may need to be taken.”

Parents/guardians and staff/visitors are reminded to utilize the daily screening checklist provided by Red Deer Public Schools.

On Friday, the school division confirmed to rdnewsNOW that one case of COVID-19 has been detected in an individual from West Park Elementary. The division added that 22 staff and students are self-isolating out of precaution.

On Thursday, Hunting Hills High School updated its count to five cases, with the division saying all of them are connected outside of school. About 80 people from that school are in self-isolation.
