Rocky Minor Football seeks funding for new lights at Curtis Field

Sep 24, 2020 | 12:03 PM

On Monday, Clearwater County Council, discussed Rocky Minor Football’s plan to resubmit their grant application to the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) to bring in additional lighting at Curtis Field.

The plan would be to install 60 LED high mast lights that could be used year round by football teams, rugby, soccer and those in winter using the ice skating ring.

Deputy Reeve Michelle Swanson noted that with the Spray Park up and going in that area, having everything well-lit would hopefully help to reduce vandalism in that area.

She also mentioned that when the football league first applied during the Alberta Masters Games that it could be a concern over possible difficulties for the helicopters landing at the Hospitals helipad and that the current chosen lights would not be an issue and shouldn’t be a problem moving forward.

The funding break down would be $62,500 each from the County and Town, $25,000 from the Minor Football Association, and $125,000 from the CFEP grant.

Without the CFEP grant the Director of Agricultural and Community Services Matt Martinson noted that the project would likely not move forward as focus would be on getting washroom and change rooms for the football teams.
