Murder charge dropped for woman accused in 2019 Red Deer stabbing death

Sep 22, 2020 | 2:01 PM

A count of second-degree murder has been withdrawn against a woman charged in relation to a homicide in Red Deer in 2019.

Crown prosecutor Greg Gordon said Tuesday morning in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench that the charge against Jennifer Lee Caswell was being withdrawn due to the low likelihood of a conviction.

Caswell, 38, did plead guilty Tuesday to assault causing bodily harm and was sentenced to eight months in prison satisfied by time already served.

The charges stemmed from the death of 45-year-old Joseph Gallant on Mar. 29, 2019.
