Preliminary hearing booked for man charged in shooting near Rimbey

A Lacombe County man charged in a shooting incident near Rimbey this summer will face a preliminary hearing in the New Year.

It was just after 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 5 when Rimbey RCMP responded to a 911 call from a witness about a shooting at a rural property west of town.

Police said the shooting occurred after a brief altercation between two men had escalated and that the victim was able to drive away from the scene before being airlifted to hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect turned himself into police the following day.

Jade John Edward Slofstra, 31, is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of a recognizance. He was granted bail after appearing in Wetaskiwin provincial court last week.

A preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial is scheduled to take place January, 20, 2021 in Wetaskiwin.
