Man shot in chest in Drayton Valley

Sep 9, 2020 | 11:53 AM

DRAYTON VALLEY – A police investigation is underway after a man was shot this morning in Drayton Valley.

RCMP say they responded at 8:42 a.m. to a 911 call that a 25-year-old male had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at a residence near 50 Avenue and 45 Street.

STARS air ambulance says one of its helicopters was dispatched a short time later to the town’s hospital. They say a crew met paramedics and airlifted the man to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton in “serious, potentially life-threatening condition.”

RCMP are looking for a vehicle, described as a black Nissan Altima with silver rims, that fled the scene of the shooting.

(NOTE: Police initially reported the vehicle to be a black, extended cab, older model pick-up truck – either a Ford or a Chevrolet – with a white/red decal on its rear window, possibly a maple leaf.)

Police say the suspects are believed to be in possession of a firearm and should not be approached if spotted.

Drayton Valley RCMP say information leads them to believe the shooting is an isolated incident and that public safety is not at risk. They also noted that no schools were involved in the incident. Three schools – Frank Maddock High School, Aurora Elementary School and Evergreen Elementary School – had been placed under ‘hold and secure’ for part of Wednesday morning until police cleared the scene.

If you have seen the suspect vehicle or have information about the people involved in this incident, contact the Drayton Valley RCMP at 780-542-4456.
