Hospice Handbag event kicks off with a new twist

Gather around your computer and join the Red Deer Hospice Society as we kick off our Hospice Handbag Online Auction! Typically held as a luncheon every other year, the 2020 version will offer everyone the option to bid online between September 8 – 21, 2020.
“In order to do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to manage the safety of our volunteers we made the decision to hold our popular Hospice Handbag Lunch as an Online Auction this year,” shared Fonda Devereaux, Event Coordinator at Red Deer Hospice. “It creates a chance to support resident care at Red Deer Hospice while getting something for yourself or a special someone in your life”.
All handbags are donated with a total of 35 up on the site and available for bidding. “Part of the fun of moving the event online is being able to offer a wider variety of bags to a larger audience,” explained Devereaux. “This year we have everything from bags under $100, to men’s bags, a designer kids backpack to a Tod’s Bauletto Satchel with a retail price of over $2000. We truly have something for everyone and every price point”.
This event began in 2012 with a group of women who desired to enjoy the camaraderie of friends while raising funds and awareness for The Red Deer Hospice Society. In 2014 the designer handbag auction was added to the luncheon. All the handbags were donated and auctioning them was a hit with attendees. To date, this event has raised over $50,000 for Red Deer Hospice.
