Alberta police allege 3-D printer used to manufacture gun parts
LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man is facing numerous charges in relation to allegations he created prohibited gun parts utilizing a 3-D printing machine in what Alberta law enforcement officials are calling a first.
The 53-year-old Picture Butte man was arrested on Aug. 18 by officers from the RCMP and Lethbridge police who seized a number of manufactured handgun and assault rifle parts including a bump stock which allows a standard semi-automatic rifle to act as a fully automatic as well as silencers.
Police also seized multiple 3-D printing machines believed to be used in the manufacturing of the parts.
Following testing, police were able to determine the parts were functional.
