BOARD MEETING RECAP

New board chair for Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools

Sep 1, 2020 | 11:15 AM

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has a new Board Chair.

Trustee Kim Pasula was appointed to the role for the 2020-21 school year as the board held its organizational meeting last week.

Dorraine Lonsdale was elected Vice Chair.

Pasula, who is serving his first term on the board after being elected in 2017, takes over from previous Board Chair Anne Marie Watson, who continues to serve on the board after first being elected in 2010.

Also at their meeting last week, the Board of Trustees chose to defer salary adjustment again for this school year.

As of Aug. 25 736 students had registered for at-home learning to begin the new school year.

There has been a delay in the arrival of modular classrooms for St. Thomas Aquinas Middle School in Red Deer and École Our Lady of the Rosary School in Sylvan Lake.

The division says delivery was delayed because of delays by the manufacturer. Alberta Education indicated that we will receive the modular towards the end of August.

As it stands right now, screw piles and underground services are complete for all of the modulars.

Meantime, five classrooms have been added to St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Blackfalds.

When it comes to the new St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School in north Red Deer, the division has selected KTJ Management to lead the project following an RFP that received 11 applications.

KTJ Management and division representation have spoken to Alberta Infrastructure to ask about doing the project based on IPD (integrated project delivery). The division has been asked by the province for additional information which they have provided and are now awaiting a decision.
