ASIRT investigating officer-involved shooting blocks from Red Deer Regional Hospital

Aug 24, 2020 | 3:48 PM

One person is in hospital following a shooting on Red Deer’s south hill early Monday morning.

On Aug. 24, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Red Deer City RCMP located a vehicle in the area of 51 Avenue and 34 Street that had been involved in a criminal flight from police incident on Aug. 23.

Mounties say an interaction occurred that led to the officer firing his service pistol. The suspect vehicle then fled the location, with additional RCMP resources deployed in an effort to locate the suspect vehicle.

At approximately 7 a.m., police located the suspect vehicle in the Eastview neighborhood unoccupied. At that time, they believed that the driver of the vehicle had fled and that they may be injured.
