Red Deer College has parted ways with its Athletic Director as it considers program’s future.

Diane St-Denis shared on Twitter Wednesday that after five years she is no longer in the role.

“While leaving is hard, I do believe I’ve been blessed to work with some great people,” she tweeted.

“I leave today knowing that I will miss what had become my new home. But most of all I will miss the people that made it my home. You will always be #MyKingsMyQueens.”

RDC President Dr. Peter Nunoda says they are using the current pause in Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) competition due to COVID-19 to review how RDC Athletics fits within the college’s structure in order to optimize Athletics programming.

“We continue to be committed to supporting student-athletes in their studies and in competition at the local, provincial, and national levels,” Nunoda said in a statement. “This week, the decision was made that Diane St-Denis will no longer serve RDC in the role of Athletic Director.”

The college has not announced any plans to replace St-Denis at this time.

Nunoda thanked St-Denis for the leadership she provided RDC Athletics during her five years at the helm.

“She has been an integral member in the success of RDC’s Athletics department, and a strong advocate for our Athletics teams, our student-athletes and our coaching personnel. I wish Diane all the best in her future endeavors.”

With St-Denis at the helm RDC hosted a number of provincial and national championship events, the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s National Volleyball Championship at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Nunoda says RDC remains committed to Athletics and there are no additional changes to our programming or personnel at this time.

The ACAC has suspended all competition during the 2020 Fall term due to COVID-19 precautions. An adjusted conference schedule is slated to begin in January.
