Some public washrooms in parks to-reopen at Red Deer parks
Seven public washrooms located in parks across the city will open on Saturday, June 27. These facilities, that normally open in the Spring, have remained closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
With the high number of touchpoints, specifically doors, locks, sink taps, and toilet seats, these amenities were considered high risk for the potential spread of COVID-19 and the decision was made to keep them closed.
“Although this risk continues, we are seeing more people using our parks,” said Shelley Gagnon, Recreation, Parks and Culture Manager. “With additional users, and more expected as we progress through provincial and local relaunch strategies, there is an increased need for access to public washrooms.”
Additional cleaning and sanitation procedures will be put in place, according to Alberta Health guidelines. Hand sanitizer stations will be installed at all washrooms. Additionally, washroom facilities will be cleaned and sanitized nightly, with additional daily cleaning.
