Drayton Valley RCMP investigating fraudulent credit card purchases

Drayton Valley RCMP is warning residents about a parts shop credit card scam going around.

Between June 12-17, 2020, Drayton Valley RCMP received a number of complaints of fraudulent credit card purchases being made by active cards that have not been reported stolen.

Further investigation has shown that in these cases, the suspect, identified as a male, telephones the business and orders parts for vehicles. Most notably, the parts are for Dodge trucks, Ford F-150, F-350, and Dodge Caravans. The suspect provides payment in the form of a credit card over the phone and then picks up the merchandise from the business.

After the transaction has already taken place, the businesses and cardholders have become aware that their cards have been compromised.

Drayton Valley RCMP are recommending businesses take precautions to avoid fraudulent transactions, such as to request photo identification and document the name and ID on the purchase order.
