An 18-year-old male is facing charges after a man was allegedly dragged by a vehicle during an incident Thursday night near Gull Lake.

Rimbey RCMP say the incident happened just before 9 p.m. at Bridgeview Road and Canal Street in the community of Meridian Beach.

RCMP say in a release that the 18-year-old was driving in a “careless manner” and that a pedestrian tried to stop the vehicle by reaching in through the passenger side window.

“The pedestrian held on as the vehicle drove off dragging him along, then fell out of the vehicle and rolled on the road as the vehicle was in motion,” the release says.

The 54-year-old male victim was flown to hospital in Calgary after sustaining what police are describing as serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, whose name has yet to be released, will be charged with failure to remain at the scene of a collision causing bodily harm and driving without a license.

Meridian Beach is located along the northeast shores of Gull Lake in Ponoka County.
