Teen arrested in Sylvan Lake vandalism spree

Jun 10, 2020 | 1:45 PM

Charges have been laid against a Sylvan Lake teen following a rash of vandalism in the community last month.

Thanks to valuable tips from members of the public, RCMP say a 16-year-old male was identified and arrested on June 9 and will now be facing six counts of mischief in relation to the incidents on May 29.

That’s when Mounties received complaints indicating that sometime between 2:45 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., three male suspects broke windows and damaged other property. The males are said to have either kicked, or threw rocks through windows.

The spree of damage began at the Sylvan Lake Community Centre, then the Lighthouse Fellowship Church, Dairy Queen, the strip mall on 50 Avenue, the Sylvan Lake Library, a parked truck, a restaurant on Lakeshore Drive, and on to other businesses. Total damage was estimated to be in excess of $5,000.
