Officials with the Town of Penhold and members of council unveiled a unique gift to the graduating class of Penhold Crossing Secondary School on Monday.

Mayor Mike Yargeau and Councillor Sharolyn Sanchez acknowledged all graduate by placing individual placards with the each graduate’s name and photo along Waskasoo Avenue in front of the Regional Multiplex.

“Unique situations call for unique ideas for celebrating our 2020 graduation class,” explained Mayor Yargeau, in a news release. “It may be a small gesture but I am very happy we were able to do something for the Penhold Crossing Secondary School Class of 2020.”

Officials say the Town invites graduates to take a picture with the signs until Friday when the signs can be taken home for grads to keep. However, everyone is invited to drive by the Multiplex and share in the celebration of the Class of 2020.

In his speech to grads, Mayor Yargeau said, “You may not be celebrating graduation as you had hoped, and because of that we wanted to make sure your efforts and accomplishments did not go unnoticed,” added Mayor Yargeau in his speech to grads on Monday. “Your graduation story will be like no other, the class of 2020 will share a special place in the history books.”

“I know you had planned to celebrate your graduation as a class on May 23 and had to postpone your plans,” continued Yargeau. “I am here today to present this gift to you, the grads of 2020, and let you know that The Town of Penhold congratulates you and stands in awe of your accomplishments under such unique conditions.”

Town officials note Chinook’s Edge School Trustee, Ms. Sherry Cooper and Principal Mr. Scott MacDonald were both present to watch the unveiling of the Town’s gift to its graduating class. Trustee Cooper addressed the class as well.
