Town of Ponoka offers credit card payment option for property taxes

The Town of Ponoka is now accepting credit card payments for property taxes through OptionPay – a third-party service provider that processes online credit card payments for a fee.

OptionPay provides residential and non-residential ratepayers with an additional payment option for their property taxes.

OptionPay uses a tiered fee schedule to collect a processing fee on each transaction.

The fee is administered through the OptionPay program for use of the service, and is not collected or received by the Town.

Citizens with credit cards that offer reward points can use OptionPay to collect points on property tax payments (including the processing fees) made through the online OptionPay portal on the Town’s website.

To view the tiered fee schedule and to learn more about OptionPay, its third-party policies and its security measures, please visit the OptionPay Online Payment portal at www.ponoka.ca.

Other accepted methods of payment for Town of Ponoka property taxes include online banking, cheque (including post-dated cheques), debit or cash.

A monthly payment plan is also available for Town of Ponoka property tax payments.

The monthly payment plan allows ratepayers to pay their property tax payments over 12 months instead of making one lump sum payment each year – at no extra cost.

Monthly payments add up to the same amount as paying property taxes in a single annual payment.

Ratepayers can also avoid late payment penalties with the monthly plan because tax payments are automatically withdrawn from their bank account on the first day of each month.

To sign up for the monthly payment plan, go to www.ponoka.ca, click on ‘Community’ on the top menu bar, then click ‘Property Taxes’ in the left-hand menu, then ‘Property Taxes & Assessment’ in the drop down menu.

Scroll down the page to ‘Forms’ and print off a copy of the ‘Tax Installment Payment Plan’ form.

Email the completed form to taxes@ponoka.ca with a void cheque or bank letter.

To qualify for monthly payments, the tax account must be current.
