Red Deer RCMP have arrested and charged an individual for attempted murder in connection to domestic violence.

On May 17, police say a 20-year-old female victim fled from her boyfriend’s home after being severely beaten and assaulted. The victim was able to escape the home, run to a passing vehicle and was taken to the hospital.

A 39-year-old male, who is known to police, is charged with attempted murder, uttering threats, damage to property and three counts of being at large on a release order, including breach of probation.

Red Deer RCMP are thanking the Good Samaritan who drove the victim to the hospital.

“Acts of domestic violence are particularly disturbing and have no place in our community,” said Inspector Holly Glassford. “The team in the Domestic Violence Unit at the Red Deer RCMP works with victims to ensure they have a safe place to return to and offer additional, ongoing support services as these incidents can cause complex trauma.”

If you are a victim of domestic violence or you suspect domestic violence is happening to someone else, call the Domestic Violence Unit at 403-406-2330, or dial 9-1-1 if an emergency.
