Lacombe County announces Municipal COVID-19 Relaunch Plan

Lacombe County has announced its Municipal COVID-19 Relaunch Plan intended to guide their “return to normal” for facilities, amenities and service levels.

Officials say that since mid-March the county’s Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) team has been carefully monitoring the COVID-19 situation.

“The Lacombe County ECC evaluated the changing situation of COVID-19, and responded in a manner that best protected staff and ratepayers,” said Lacombe County Reeve, Paula Law. “We are excited to move forward, regardless of the pace, and return back to a new normal in our community.”

• Once physical barriers are installed in the reception areas, the Lacombe County administration office and shop can fully reopen to the public (office remains open by appointment only until physical barriers are in place).

o At that time, masks will be available at public entry points into the administration office and shop and mask use will be strongly recommended in spaces used by the public.

• Lacombe County’s parks and trails remain open; however, all public washrooms facilities, all playgrounds, and the Sandy Point Beach remain closed.

• Public health requirements on occupancy, physical distancing, hygiene, etc. will continue to be strictly adhered to.

“By taking this first step, we are trying to ensure the safety of everyone, whether they are coming in to the office or visiting one of our recreational areas,” explained Law. “Throughout this public health crisis, we have been following the recommendations of Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta, and will continue to progress in that manner as we move to Stage 2 and beyond. It’s important to remember that all of these measures could change at any time, depending on the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates.”

Lacombe County urges everyone to continue following public health guidelines to continue preventing the spread of COVID-19, including:

• practice physical distancing and keep at least 6 feet apart from other people

• wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

• cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow

• avoid touching your face with unwashed hands

• avoid travel outside Canada

• watch for COVID-19 symptoms, including but not limited to: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat
