Red Deer County joins national crime prevention group

May 12, 2020 | 6:41 PM

Red Deer County is becoming a member of the Canadian Municipal Network of Crime Prevention (CMNCP).

Council gave their thumbs up to joining the national crime fighting organization during their regular meeting on Tuesday.

“CMNCP is a community of practice created to build capacity and mobilize Canadian municipalities to prevent and reduce crime and foster community safety and well-being,” as described in an agenda item for Tuesday’s meeting. “CMNCP aims to increase investment in effective, evidence-based and collaborative crime prevention strategies in municipalities.”

Members of CMNCP, including The City of Red Deer and 27 others, represent Canadian municipalities from across Canada and enable the stakeholders and the public to access the accumulated evidence on what has worked to prevent crime, share good practice in successful crime prevention, and learn from the practical experiences of other members.
