More summer meetings for Red Deer city council

May 12, 2020 | 1:18 PM

Red Deer city council will be holding more meetings than usual this summer, and will conduct public hearings by-email, as they catch up on municipal business affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The changes were approved during council’s regular meeting on Monday.

Since the onset of the pandemic, council meeting agendas have been held to items deemed urgent.

Starting in June and into July, council will be meeting twice a week as opposed to their typical schedule of meeting every second Monday. The revised schedule includes meetings on June 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29, and on July 6, 8, 13, 15 and 20.

Meetings are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and be done by 5 p.m. Council meetings can be watched via video conference at the City of Red Deer website.

Council also has special meetings scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, where they will consider the 2020 Tax Bylaw, and next Wednesday, May 20 in addition to their next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, May 25.

Public hearing submissions will be done via email (legislativeservices@reddeer.ca) as public access to City Hall is not permitted at this time. There also remains a ban on public gatherings of more than 15 people.
