Tax Bylaw Approved

Rocky Mountain House maintains tax levy, waives penalties for 2020

May 7, 2020 | 11:52 AM

The Town of Rocky Mountain House has maintained the municipal tax levy at its current rate for the second straight year as part of the recently passed 2020 Tax Bylaw.

Adopted on May 5, the bylaw provides for a levy of $9,190,027 for municipal purposes.

Property owners may still notice a slight fluctuation on their tax bill for the year, depending on their assessments.

β€œIn the meantime, we continue to find efficiencies in our operations to minimize the tax burden on our community,” says Mayor Tammy Burke.

The tax bylaw also provides for a levy of $2,779,721 for the school requisition, $81,740 for the Seniors Foundation Requisition and $885 for the Designated Industrial Properties Requisition. These are provincially-mandated requisitions the Town is obligated to collect.

Property-owners should receive their 2020 combined assessment and property tax notice by mid-June. Property-owners have the opportunity to appeal their assessment, or any other assessment on the roll, within 60 days from the date of mailing. The assessment roll is available for viewing by appointment during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., at the Town Office (5116-50 Ave). COVID-19 protocols for physical distancing are in effect. A limited assessment roll is also available online at https://www.rockymtnhouse.com/p/taxes-assessment.

Tax penalties waived for 2020

In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Council has waived tax penalties for the 2020 tax year and postponed the due-date until August 31, 2020. Taxes are due on August 31, however if you cannot pay your taxes in full, you will not incur any late fees this year. Property-owners are encouraged to enroll in a Tax Instalment Payment Plan and pay their entire tax bill, penalty-free, by December 31, 2020.

For more information on enrolling in a Tax Instalment Payment Plan, please call the Town Office at 403-845-2866.
