Drayton Valley RCMP report: April 23 – April 29

April 23

8:10 am – Tomahawk – Complainant reporting male is breaking windows on property and yelling at complainant. Members attended, male had left prior to arrival. Nothing broken. Members located male who advised he had not broken anything and would not return to property.

8:18 am – Brazeau County – Complainant reporting drones overhead at night. This has been happening a couple of times a week. Member contacted complainant and provided information regarding the drone laws.

9:26 am – Drayton Valley – 51 Avenue – Complainant reporting client threatened staff as a result of their account being closed due to fraudulent activity. Member attended and spoke with complainant who did not wish charges, however, did wish for the suspect to be banned. Member located suspect and served them with documentation as requested.

9:45 am – Drayton Valley – 58 Avenue – Complainant reporting a break and enter overnight. Entry made through a window, 2 pairs of cutters taken.

9:53 am – Drayton Valley – Mackenzie Avenue – Complainant reporting suspicious males at 3 am were looking into vehicles parked along the street. Description provided, no entry gained to vehicles. 1 male wearing a red plaid jacket. Complainant confronted them and they left.

10:33 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 759 – Complainant reporting a vehicle fire. Complainant observed 2 early model Chevrolet trucks go by, one was dark grey driven by male, the other was silver and driven by female. Shortly after the complainant noted a vehicle burning. Member attended, vehicle stolen, towed.

2:14 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 Street – Complainant reporting a male and female attempted to use a lost/stolen visa card to purchase cigarettes. Member attended and obtained information on card used. Card not reported stolen or lost to RCMP.

2:59 pm – Drayton Valley – Jubilee Avenue – Complainant reporting a disturbance. Male is smashing phone in phone booth. Member attended and located known male by the highway. No damage to phone or booth.

3:14 pm – Drayton Valley – 57 Street – Complainant reporting their Sea Can was broken into and bikes stolen.

3:41 pm – Drayton Valley – Center Court Trailer Court – Complainant requesting member assistance with obtaining belongings.

4:12 pm – Drayton Valley – 46 Avenue – Members requested to assist CFS checking on welfare of child. Members attended as requested. One male arrested for breaching conditions of court order.

6:33 pm – Drayton Valley – Walmart – Complainant located a bag of mail behind Walmart. Bag was in a snowbank and appeared to have come from several mailboxes. Member attended, mail was from several addresses on 49th Street. Mail taken to Canada Post.

6:46 pm – Parkland County – RR 55 – Complainant reporting a large sinkhole in road. Member attended and placed cones and police tape around hole. Parkland County advised.

9:31 pm – Drayton Valley – RR 83 – Complainant reporting that the mailboxes have been broken into. Canada Post advised.

11:08 pm – Drayton Valley – 50 Avenue – Complainant reporting their tenant is yelling and not making sense. Members attended, female arrested.

April 24

9:55 am – Brazeau County – RR 75 – Cell tower site entered overnight, industrial batteries stolen.

12:47 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Deer vs vehicle MVC reported, no injuries.

12:49 pm – Parkland County – Police responded to a reported domestic incident that took place the previous night. A male was arrested and numerous unsecured restricted and non-restricted firearms and prohibited devices were located inside the residence. The male has been charged with assault and 31 weapon-related offences and was remanded into custody for a bail hearing in Edmonton April 27. The name of the male is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

2:53 pm – Drayton Valley – Country Style Trailer Park – Report of a male possibly stripping copper wire.

3:27 pm – Drayton Valley – Mackenzie Ave – 911 call through OnStar. Button was hit accidentally, no emergency.

3:33 pm – Drayton Valley – Centre Court – Report of a landlord/tenant dispute, non-police matter.

6:05 pm – Drayton Valley – 48 Avenue – Complaint of a suspicious, aggressive person that was walking down the alley 2 hours prior. The complainant provided a vague description, unknown who the suspect was.

7:32 pm – Drayton Valley – 51 Street – Complaint of a possible breach of a court order. Police mediated the situation between the involved parties, no offence.

April 25

1:12 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Police and EMS were both called by a male calling 911 in a panicked state advising he was being attacked. Police located the male who was hallucinating on drugs. The male was treated by EMS, no attack took place.

8:11 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Alberta license plate BKT9410 was stolen from a vehicle in a hotel parking lot sometime overnight.

12:35 pm – Drayton Valley – 46 Avenue – Report of strange black smoke coming from a chimney of a residence. Police attended, no smoke/fire located.

2:04 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Report of a black Chrysler 300 speeding excessively. Police made patrols for the vehicle, but it was not located.

2:18 pm – Brazeau County – RR 75 – Police were called to an unwanted female at a residence. Members attended and gave a courtesy ride to the female into town, no offence had been committed.

2:40 pm – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Deer vs vehicle collision reported that occurred the night before. No injuries.

8:14 pm – Brazeau County – RR 73 – Suspicious male in the woods. Police attended, homeless male located, was collecting his clothing that he keeps under a tarp in that area.

8:14 pm – Drayton Valley – 43 Avenue – Complaint of an erratic driver with loud exhaust. Police located the vehicle, ticket issued for the loud exhaust, warning given for driving behaviour.

9:31 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 620 – Report of a missing female. After getting into an argument the female went for a walk in the woods to cool down and got lost. Police attended the area but the female was located shortly after by a friend.

11:33 pm – Brazeau County – RR 81 – Report of a possible B&E to a garage at a rural property. Police attended, no signs of a break and enter, believe strong winds blew open the door.

April 26

12:50 am – Brazeau County – RR 75 – 911 hang-up from a landline. Police attended, occupants were sleeping, and advised that the landline was disconnected a while ago. Adverse weather can at times cause 911 misdials for some reason.

12:55 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 22 – Report of a hitchhiker trying to flag people down with a flashlight. Police attended but could not locate anyone on the highway.

4:53 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Report of a discarded suitcase, nothing suspicious, police advised owner of property they could dispose of it.

7:11 am – Brazeau County – Hwy 759 – B&E to the Berrymoor Church. A passerby reported seeing the door open and had appeared to be forced. Police attended and cleared the church, nothing found inside, but appeared to be ransacked. When the property reps attended, they advised they had previously reported a B&E approx. a month ago and just hadn’t cleaned up yet. Believed the door was blown open by the wind, nothing further appeared damaged or missing.

9:25 am – Drayton Valley – 50 Street – Suspicious males possibly trying to enter a business. Police attended, two homeless males were standing near the building trying to get shelter from the wind, no sign of attempted entry to the business. The males were told to move along.

3:15 pm – Drayton Valley – Company vehicle broken into overnight in the northeast area of Drayton Valley. Items taken included battery pack, gift cards, and a fleet car. No surveillance was available and no suspects were located.

6:50 pm – Drayton Valley – 53 St – Charges are pending against 2 people who were trying to squat in a vacant apartment. Police located the suspects walking away from the building. Once identified, police learned one of the suspects had warrants out of Edmonton. Upon a search of the suspects, police found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Suspects were released for a future court date.

April 27

5:30 am – Drayton Valley – Greenwood Trailer Court – Police responded to a possible fight in progress in the area of Greenwood. Home was located via a front window smashed open. All parties in the residence were identified. Turned out to be a disagreement which lead to pushing and shoving but no one was injured. No charges were laid and the people were separated.

10:44 am – Drayton Valley – 54 Ave – Police attended the area for people who were living in a metal bin on private property. When police arrived on scene the suspects had left. Bedding and other items located. Complainant did not want charges just the people off the property. Police attended the property throughout the night however, no one returned to the bin.

11:44 am – Drayton Valley – Dodson Plaza – People were concerned about a male drinking behind the plaza. Police attended and spoke with the male who claimed he was bored from sitting at home during the COVID epidemic. No other issues were observed.

3:54 pm – Drayton Valley – 53 Ave – Drayton Valley RCMP attended an assault in progress near Centre Court Trailer Park. Two males were in an altercation which resulted in one of the males being taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The investigation is continuing and charges are being considered.

7:09 pm – Drayton Valley – Hwy 22 – Police received numerous calls of a collision on Hwy 22 between a Toyota Yaris and a Dodge Durango. RCMP learned the Yaris had been stolen an hour before. The driver of the Yaris was familiar to the RCMP. Charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, and theft of a motor vehicle were laid against the driver of the Yaris, Ajai Schmidt, of Drayton Valley. Schmidt was held until April 30th, 2020.

April 28

5:13 am – Brazeau County – Police responded to a break and enter to the landfill site just north of Drayton Valley. Upon arriving, police found a lock to be broken off and entry was gained. No one was located in the building. The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for any information that would lead to an arrest of the suspect(s).

3:48 pm – Drayton Valley – 50th Ave – An intoxicated male entered the wrong home, confused to where he was. Homeowner asked him to leave. Police located the male a short distance away. He was arrested and held until sober. Homeowner did not want to press charges.

9:43 pm – Drayton Valley – 43 Street – Report of stunting vehicles in the area. Police patrolled the area, but were unable to find any vehicles driving erratically.

April 29

2:54 am – Drayton Valley – 58 Avenue – Suspicious vehicle located parked on a lease site. The male driver was arrested on outstanding warrants for provincial offences out of Edmonton and released roadside.

6:46 pm – Brazeau County – Hwy 22/39 – Report of a dangerous driver in a purple Dodge Dakota. Police attempted to locate the vehicle in town; however, there was a 2-hour time delay before police were notified.

8:00 pm – Drayton Valley – 56 Street – Report of two suspicious people behind a building on the property. Police attended, but they had already left the property towards the highway. Patrols made, nothing located.

11:07 pm – Brazeau County – Twp 492 – Suspicious vehicle reported at the end of a dead-end road.
