Trudeau gives COVID-19 briefing for April 29

Apr 29, 2020 | 8:55 AM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will share his latest update on the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Trudeau is to speak during a news conference scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT. (Wednesday, April 29). You can watch the news conference below.

Parliament will be meeting today with a skeleton crew of MPs in the chamber.

It’s the first of what is to be a once-a-week, in-person sitting, supplemented by one, and eventually two, virtual sittings each week.

The government wants MPs to approve legislation authorizing nine-billion-dollars in financial assistance for students, but the opposition parties want changes made before they will vote in favour of the bill.

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is pushing for the legislation to provide a link to available jobs and incentive so students will get out and work and not stay home and collect the emergency aid.
