Many projects in Capstone to be completed this year

Work is continuing this spring on Red Deer’s newest riverside community.

Construction on several projects within Capstone are expected to be complete in 2020, according to an update issued this week.

This year, new street signs, lighting and furniture will be installed on Alexander Way. Last year, the route saw the completion of flex parking lanes, street planters, sidewalks, bike paths and landscaping.

As well, more decorative work will be done to highlight Canada 150 Square as a focal point of the entire neighbourhood. This includes lighting, planters, furniture and a fountain.

As for parking, a new lot was constructed in 2019 at the northwest end of Alexander Way. This year, parking curbs, lighting and landscaping will be finished, adding over 60 parking stalls.’

The south and north riverwalk, a key recreational feature of Capstone, will also receive a large amount of attention.

“In 2020, work will continue on a short section of trail through Canada 150 Square with tree planting. A natural soft-scaped park space will also added at the south end of Riverwalk near 45 Street,” the update describes.

“Although there won’t be any impact to vehicular traffic on 45th Street as a result of this work, there may be temporary trail closures for pedestrians and appropriate detours will be identified. In unpaved areas, or in areas of heavy foot traffic, crews will lay down gravel while the ground continues to dry up to ensure pedestrian access to North and South Riverwalk is maintained.”
