Facilities in Ponoka to remain closed for now

Apr 26, 2020 | 6:04 PM

The Town of Ponoka would like to thank citizens for their continued diligence and patience in following Alberta’s provincial health directives and physical distancing requirements to help slow the spread of COVID-19. “Your actions are helping to protect yourself and others during this pandemic,” said Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett.

Until the provincial directives and public health orders are lifted, all Town facilities will remain closed to public access, including the following outdoor recreation facilities:

 Tennis Courts (located beside the Ponoka Aquaplex)

 Hamilton’s Skate Park

 All public playground structures in Ponoka, including those located on school grounds

 Ponoka Splash Park

 As of April 20, the walking trail system and public lands along the Battle River within Town boundaries have been temporarily closed due to flooding concerns but will reopen once the river water levels recede and the flood threat passes.

“We encourage citizens to get outdoors and enjoy the warm weather while continuing to followprovincial physical distancing requirements,” said Mayor Bonnett. “By each of us doing our part to flatten the curve, we can help prevent further spread of this virus and protect the most vulnerable members of our community.”
