Mar 16, 2020 | 7:51 PM

Officials with Red Deer College say they continue to work on plans and processes for the alterations to course delivery, as well as any other changes on our campuses due to province’s decision to cancel post-secondary classes in Alberta in response to COVID-19.

RDC is making its students and the community aware of the following updates:

Classes

• As per the update on March 15, all classes on RDC’s campuses are now cancelled, including all Apprenticeship classes:

o Classes will be offered via online and remote delivery starting on Wednesday, March 18

o This online delivery of courses is anticipated to continue until September 2020, as per RDC’s communications with the Government of Alberta

• Students are encouraged to stay connected with their instructors via email to determine the specific needs for each class

Events

RDC is also cancelling all events that will be held on its campuses now through April 30.

“We will continue to assess future events, using a 30-day window into the future to identify cancellations,” the college says in a release. “Events held later this spring are currently being assessed to determine if they will continue.”

“RDC will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and government/health agency directives in our consideration for these events. We understand that individuals may have questions about ticket refunds for paid events, and other details. These items are currently being reviewed and once more details are known, RDC will communicate with ticketholders.”

Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

RDC is temporarily closing all of its sports and recreation facilities, including programming and associated bookings, as of noon on Monday, March 16. The facilities and programming impacted by this include:

o Collicutt Performance Fitness Zone

o Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena

o Fas Gas – On The Run Gymnasium

o Border Paving Running Track

o Larkaun Homes Squash Courts

o All Fitness and Wellness Programming and Classes

o Be Fit For Life Centre

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre remains open, as do the other buildings on RDC’s campuses.

General Information

RDC has implemented a variety of protocols, including increased cleaning and sanitizing of high-traffic areas (such as classrooms and washrooms), to help ensure the health and safety of our students, employees and visitors.

“We understand these are stressful times, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work together to determine solutions that work in our College community,” the college acknowledges.
