The Red Deer Rustlers face an 0-2 deficit in their best of five NCHL league final versus the Daysland Northstars.

This after the Rustlers fell in game two 5-4 in overtime on Sunday.

Red Deer took a 2-0 lead to start the game when Jaret Smith tucked in both goals within the first six minutes of the game.

Daysland, however, tied it up with a goal later in the first from Ryley Bennefield, and another from Colin Zimmer just 30 seconds into the second period.

The Rustlers went into the third period with a 3-2 lead after Dylan Houston scored midway through the second. But the Northstars tied it up early in the third before taking a 4-3 lead with 3:57 left to play.

Red Deer answered the bell to send the game to overtime when Tyler Berkholtz found the back of the net with 1:31 remaining.

The Northstars ended the game 10:24 into the extra frame when Tyron Keller snuck one past Rusters goalie Mike Salmon for the 2-0 series lead.

Game three of the series is Friday at 8:15 p.m. at the Daysland Arena. Both the Rustlers and Daysland have already earned berths at Sr. AA provincials.
