Drayton Valley RCMP took a man into custody last week after recovering a stolen vehicle.

On March 4, a member on patrol spotted an older model white Dodge Ram being driven by a known offender. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier out of Breton.

The driver was known to be prohibited from driving and was wanted for breaching a Conditional Sentence Order.

The known offender abandoned the vehicle after being confronted by the RCMP member and took off on foot, where police members pursued and caught him.

Minor injuries were sustained by the arresting member after being bitten by the offender during the arrest.

21-year-old Durant Shale was arrested and charged with six offences, including Possession of Stolen Property over $5000, Operation of a Vehicle while Prohibited, Assault on a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstruct Peace Officer, and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.

Shale was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
