Change of leadership at Drumheller and Bowden institutions

Mar 7, 2020 | 2:54 PM

A change in command has taken place at both Bowden Institution and Drumheller Institution.

Outgoing Bowden Warden Tracey Farmer is being replaced by Lawrence Hartigan, and at Drumheller, Warden Darcy Emann will be replaced by Farmer.

The ceremonies held at each institution this week reinforce the responsibility of leadership in the role of warden.

“I am pleased to be here for the change of command ceremonies at Drumheller and Bowden Institutions. This is a long-standing tradition that allows us to witness the passing of responsibility between leaders,” said Commissioner Anne Kelly.

“Leading an institution requires taking ownership of the tremendous responsibilities that are before us to safely reintegrate offenders. It also means providing the kind of work environment that helps employees do their best work and leave their personal mark of excellence on Corrections.”

Bowden Institution first opened as a medium-security facility in 1974, and now employs more than 400 staff. It can accomodate up to 600 offenders.

Drumheller opened in 1967 as a medium-security facility. It also employs 400, and can accomodate 700 offenders.
