Red Deer Sports and Outdoor Show goes this weekend

The Red Deer Sports and Outdoor Show returns to Westerner Park this weekend.

The show, now in its 54th year, will feature local businesses, clubs and celebrities from the world of the outdoors.

“It’s the fundraiser for the Red Deer Fish and Game Club, which is a local conservation club. They support sports conservation, youth activities, and things like that. It’s a great organization here in town. It does so much for conservation and for the youth of the community,” said Troy Coutts, show manager.

The three-day event will feature things like axe throwing, various products like RVs, boats, mountain bikes, quads and a lot more on top of the guest speakers. The event has a central stage this year where numerous these guests will have the chance to speak.

“Wes David from Fishing the Wild West TV is going to be our main host, he’s going to give some presentations on fishing and fishing strategies. We’ve also got Jordan Walsh, Jeff Coyle, Chuck McPherson doing things like white tail strategies, elk and much more,” added Coutts.“ There’s activity’s for the kids, there’s free face painting set up, there’s an air rifle range, there’s a reptile show for them. A lot of interactive displays there.”

Another new feature for this year’s show is the introduction of a beer gardens where guests of age will have the opportunity to sit and grab a drink while listening to speakers.

The Red Deer Sports and Outdoor Show runs 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
