Radiothon raises thousands for Red Deer Regional Health Foundation

Feb 22, 2020 | 10:37 AM

A total of $16,448 was raised on Friday during the ‘Call for a Cause Radiothon’ hosted by BIG 105, 106.7 The Drive and rdnewsNOW.

Money raised will be spent on the purchase of cardiac monitors which will be used in the pediatrics unit. Each unit costs $34,000, so help is still needed.

“When the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation (RDRHF) approached us with the idea of doing a radiothon, we immediately said that we loved the idea,” says Jamie Rankin, program director at BIG 105.

“Radio is all about community and what better way to serve your community than supporting your local hospital?”

The day included visits from Red Deer’s very own Batman, and numerous stories from doctors and past patients about how the hospital and the pediatrics unit has impacted their lives. The Red Deer Shriners even donated $2,000.

“It was a great day, and a fun day. To be able to share stories on how donor-funded equipment makes a difference is so inspiring,” says Travis Kuschminder, Marketing & Communications Manager, RDRHF.

“We are so grateful to everyone that participated in any capacity on Friday — from donors to guests to our media friends broadcasting live all day.”

Donations to the ‘Call for a Cause Radiothon’ can be still be made online through the end of the weekend. A grand total will be announced on Monday.
