Rope Skipping Alberta hosts competition in Blackfalds

Rope skipping, a sport that’s fun, energy-filled and enjoyed by kids across the world, was featured in a big way this weekend in Red Deer.

On Feb. 1 and 2, Rope Skipping Alberta hosted its Masters Competition at Blackfalds’ Abbey Centre. The competition included a Double Dutch discipline.

“These athletes prepare and participate in complex routines, far more advanced than just regular jump rope,” an organizer says. “One routine prepared had the athletes dance Cadillac Ranch while skipping rope. Skills like that take hours of practice to perfect.

“Our team coming from Calgary, we practice twice a week, two hours each practice. Some of our athletes also put in practice on their own time.”
