Jan 27, 2020 | 6:48 AM

RED DEER- After nearly pulling off a rally at home, the RDC Kings Hockey team shutout the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton. The Hockey Queens defeated the Olds College Broncos twice. Both volleyball squads picked up a pair of match wins over the Ambrose University Lions. The Red Deer College Kings Indoor Track team earned first and the Queens took second at Running Room Grand Prix #1. After a tremendous Winter Regional, the RDC Queens Curling team qualified for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championships. The Basketball Queens played extremely well down south and dropped the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in back-to-back games. The Kings had some good performances, but couldn’t beat the undefeated Kodiaks on the hardwood.

Make Some Noise

The RBC sponsored ACAC initiative, Make Some Noise For Mental Health, was recognized at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on January 24. RBC representatives were on site, and along with giving away many prizes, they donated $1,000 for mental health initiatives.

RDC Athletics will utilize those funds to help host a free financial literacy workshop in February for Red Deer College students.

RBC has been a long-time supporter of the College. They have provided significant funding to the College’s Student Ambassadors Program. In addition to their ongoing support for Make Some Noise, they’ve assisted with RDC scholarships and the Student Emergency Bursary.

“We want to make sure that we are supporting the community. The awareness is the key part of mental health,” says Kelly Treleaven, Manager of Gaetz and Piper North RBC Branch. “If we don’t bring it to everyone’s attention, it doesn’t come out. We want to make sure we are part of that.”
