Leadership Renewal

Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre undertakes leadership transition

A Red Deer charitable organization supporting children with special needs is on the lookout for new leadership.

In December 2019, Michelle Sluchinski, executive director at Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre (Aspire) announced her resignation and will depart as leader, effective June 26th, 2020.

After almost eight years leading the organization, officials with Aspire say Sluchinski recognized this as the right time for transition and renewal.

“Aspire is in a financially strong, forward-looking position, focused on the mission of providing hope to children with special needs, the families who love them, and the communities who care for them,” says Sluchinski, in a release. “The Board of Directors intends to release a new year 2020-2025 Strategic Plan next month and leadership renewal will advance the goals and strategies.”

Chair of the Board of Directors, Robin Armitage adds, “We have tremendous community support, a strong board, an exceptional staff team with well informed, caring individuals who have the very best for Aspire, the children and our community in their hearts, and for that I am ever grateful!”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish Michelle all the very best in her future opportunities and appreciate immensely all she has accomplished at Aspire,” continues Armitage. “I know that with Michelle’s guidance this transition will place Aspire in good stead for continued growth and accomplishment. I look forward to collaborating with the community to find the person who will continue to lead the organization in advancing our vision of working together to discover potential.”

Aspire officials say the Board of Directors has formed a Search Committee, which Sluchinski will support and work alongside, to support the transition process.
