Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Lois Mitchell will open the doors to Government House on January 1 to celebrate a centuries-old Canadian tradition in one of Alberta’s great heritage buildings.

The levee will be open to the general public on Wednesday, January 1 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Government House is located at 12845 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton.

The annual New Year’s Day levee is a family-friendly event where people of all ages can meet and take a photo with the Lieutenant Governor, His Honour Doug Mitchell and senior officers from the Canadian Forces, RCMP and Edmonton Police.

Guests can also enjoy music and light refreshments while taking in the art and history of Government House, which served as the official residence to Alberta’s first six Lieutenant Governors.

There will be games for younger guests and an opportunity for all to send a postcard of thanks and encouragement to Canadian Forces members serving overseas.

Reservations/tickets are not required. Free parking is available on the grounds and Government House is wheelchair accessible from the west side of the building.
