Two people killed in Highway 11 crash

RED DEER COUNTY- A three vehicle crash on Highway 11 yesterday afternoon claimed the lives of two people.

Blackfalds RCMP were dispatched to the collision at 4:30 p.m. on Highway 11 between Range Roads 283 and 284 near Alberta Springs Golf Course.

Initial indications are that an eastbound SUV lost control and collided with another SUV travelling westbound. A third car travelling westbound then struck the two SUVs.

The two female occupants of the eastbound SUV were declared deceased on scene.

The two occupants of the westbound SUV were transported to the hospital and the driver, and lone occupant, of the car was treated on scene.

Traffic was diverted for approximately five hours while RCMP were on scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation but police say icy road conditions were a factor.
