Quentin Strawberry arrested for attempted murder

A man charged for homicide earlier this year in Red Deer, who was granted bail just last month, is back behind bars.

Quentin Strawberry is charged with second-degree murder in the March 29 death of Joseph Gallant.

The 38-year-old now faces charges of attempted murder, obstructing a police officer and six counts of breach of recognizance for an incident that occurred this past Monday.

Members of the Red Deer RCMP Downtown Unit responded that morning to an apartment building where they discovered a male suffering from a head injury from an alleged attack with a machete.

Strawberry was located and arrested by police on outstanding warrants for failure to comply with bail conditions.

Strawberry was granted bail last month that came with restrictions including a 24-hour curfew, keeping the peace, and not possessing anything intended to be used as a weapon. Police say Strawberry failed to comply with each of these restrictions and was subsequently charged for breaching his release conditions on November 20, 25 and 26.

He will remain in custody until his next appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Dec. 11.

Strawberry and co-accused Jennifer Caswell are scheduled for a preliminary hearing regarding the Gallant case on Feb. 28, 2020.
