Volleyball stars earn RDC Athlete of the Week honours

Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce the Bedford Food Company Athletes of the Week:

Emma Letkeman – Queens Volleyball
Hometown – Victoria, BC
Kinesiology General (1st year)

Setter Emma Letkeman played extremely well this past weekend, helping the Queens (10-2) win both matches against the SAIT Trojans. In only seven sets played, Letkeman impressively totaled 58 assists, 10 digs, seven kills, six aces, one stuff block and one block assist. She contributed 31 assists, five kills, five digs and three aces in Friday’s four set win (25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-10) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Then on Saturday, the Kinesiology General student accumulated 27 assists, five digs, three aces, two kills, one stuff block and one block assist in a three set sweep (25-16, 25-14 and 25-18) on the road. Letkeman was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game for her outstanding effort and contributions.

The first-year has adjusted very well to competing in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and has played a significant role in the Queens’ ten consecutive match victories.

Tom Wass – Kings Volleyball
Hometown – Adelaide, Australia
Bachelor of Arts (3rd year)

Tom Wass effectively ran the Kings’ offence in both match wins against the SAIT Trojans, who entered the weekend as the top seed in the south. The third-year setter finished with 56 assists, 12 digs, three kills, three stuff blocks and two service aces over seven sets in a consistent team effort. Wass picked up 28 assists, nine digs, one ace and one stuff block in Friday’s three set sweep (26-24, 25-17 and 25-20), earning the Collegiate Sports Medicine Kings Player-of-the-Game.

The Bachelor of Arts student added 28 assists, three kills, three digs, two stuff blocks and one ace in Saturday’s four set victory (25-21, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-20), helping RDC (9-3) earn four of a possible four points in the standings.

In their past 10 matches, the RDC Kings have won eight and place second in the south.
