Weekend recap: Nov. 29-Dec. 1

RED DEER- The RDC Kings Hockey team defeated the SAIT Trojans twice and the Hockey Queens split their series with the Trojans.

The Kings & Queens Volleyball teams defeated the Trojans in a pair of matches.

Both basketball squads dropped their games on a lengthy road trip.

The RDC Queens Curling team finished with an even record at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Fall Regional. The Kings and RDC Mixed Curling team picked up two wins each.

Here is a summary of what happened this past weekend:

Queens Volleyball | Friday, Nov. 29 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Queens earned a four set victory over the SAIT Trojans (25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-10). RDC outside hitter Emma Holmes pounded 17 kills and added three aces, two digs and one stuff block.

Queens Volleyball | Saturday, Nov. 30 | SAIT

The Red Deer College Queens (10-2) swept the Trojans in Calgary (25-16, 25-14 and 25-18), winning their tenth consecutive match. Setter Emma Letkeman contributed 27 assists, five digs, three aces, two kills, one stuff block and one block assist.

Kings Volleyball | Friday, Nov. 29 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The RDC Kings defeated the top seed SAIT Trojans in straight sets (26-24, 25-17 and 25-20). First-year outside hitter Carter Hills totaled 10 kills, three digs, two stuff blocks, one assist and one ace.

Kings Volleyball | Saturday, Nov. 30 | SAIT

The Kings (9-3) earned a four set victory over the Trojans (9-4) in Calgary (25-21, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-20). Setter Thomas Wass finished with 28 assists, three kills, three digs, two stuff blocks and one ace. Red Deer’s Ben Holmes had 10 kills.

Queens Hockey | Friday, Nov. 29 | SAIT

Ashley Sutherland scored in overtime giving the RDC Queens a 2-1 victory. Sydney Rowley connected in regulation time for the Queens. Goaltender Karlee Fetch made 27 saves.

Queens Hockey | Saturday, Nov. 30 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Queens (9-2-1-0) were edged 3-2 by the SAIT Trojans (2-10-0-0). Jessi-Lynn Sumaling and Avery Lajeunnesse tallied for RDC.

Kings Hockey | Friday, Nov. 29 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The RDC Kings earned a 6-4 victory over the SAIT Trojans at home. Mathieu Lapointe, Tyrell Mappin, Chance Longjohn, Tyler Podgorenko, Jacob Wozney and Chase Thudium found the back of the net. Kings goaltender Arik Weersink made 25 saves.

Kings Hockey | Saturday, Nov. 30 | SAIT

The Kings (12-1-1-0) picked up a 5-4 road win over the Trojans (6-5-1-0). Jacob Wozney, Austin Hunter and Chase Thudium struck on the power play. Dylan Thudium and Chance Longjohn added even strength goals. Arik Weersink made 26 saves.

RDC Curling | Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 | ACAC Fall Regional | Lloydminster Golf & Curling Centre

After three days of competition, the Red Deer College Kings (2-4) and RDC Mixed team (2-3) picked up a couple wins each. The Queens completed the weekend with an even 3-3 record.

Queens Basketball | Friday, Nov. 29 | Medicine Hat College

The Red Deer College Queens were edged 71-70 by the Rattlers in Medicine Hat. Valentina Rincon had 22 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal for the Queens.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 30 | Briercrest College

The Queens (4-6) were downed 107-94 by the Clippers in Saskatchewan. Sophie Melin led the RDC offence with 24 points. Lauren Cardinal added 21 points.

Kings Basketball | Friday, Nov. 29 | Medicine Hat College

The Red Deer College Kings were shaded by a bucket (84-82) in Medicine Hat against the Rattlers. Spencer Klassen scored 19 points. Kevin Szymanek led the Kings with six boards.

Kings Basketball | Saturday, Nov. 30 | Briercrest College

The RDC Kings (5-5) were downed 106-89 by the Clippers on the road. Tyronn King contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
