SMOKY LAKE- The chairwoman of the Aspen View Public Schools board of trustees called yesterday’s school bus crash “the fear of every parent in rural Alberta who puts their child on a school bus each morning.”
Candyce Nikipelo said in a statement that hearts of families throughout Aspen View and rural Alberta go out to those involved in the crash, which sent more than a dozen students to hospital, including five in critical condition.
The bus and a truck-mounted crane collided at about 8:30 a.m. near Smoky Lake, about 115 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
Police say the driver of the crane was taken to hospital with minor injuries and a passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
