GIVING TUESDAY

Giving Tuesday at Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery

Nov 28, 2019 | 6:46 AM

RED DEER- December 3 is Giving Tuesday and the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) is planning to raise funds for its ‘MAGsparks’ program as part of the global giving movement that has been driven by individuals, charities, businesses and communities across Canada and in countries around the world.

Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, Giving Tuesday is the opening day of the giving season.

MAGsparks is a community visual art program tailored to persons with developmental disabilities, but accessible to everyone.

Participants experience numerous art forms including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

The program offers scheduled activities throughout the year.

As well, the ‘Open Studio’ allows participants to work in their preferred medium instead of the planned art-project of the day, which offers complete flexibility for participants and their interests.

On Giving Tuesday 100% of donations received will go directly to the program.

“MAGsparks has been in operation longer than any of the MAG’s other public programs,” says Lorna Johnson, Executive Director. “It has offered engaging and affirmative programs for 14-years. MAGsparks has attracted a community of individuals who love art and who love the warmth and friendship that the studio offers. Your support on Giving Tuesday will support the purchase of art materials for MAG Sparks so that we may continue the creativity and the fun.”

In 2018 over $300 was raised and these funds went directly into the program to purchase art supplies for participants.

This year the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery’s goal is to raise $600 – double last year’s donations.
