Possible armed robbery call leads to arrest of man wanted on outstanding warrants

A 911 call to Red Deer RCMP about a possible armed robbery at a downtown bank Monday morning led to the arrest of a man wanted on outstanding warrants.

According to RCMP, police received the call at 9:40 a.m. about a man possibly armed inside the Scotiabank at 5002 50 Street in Red Deer.

After locating the suspect, Mounties confirmed the man did not have a gun but did have a baseball bat inside his backpack.

RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott says the bat was not being used in any way inside the bank.

“Coincidentally, he was wanted on some outstanding warrants and he was arrested,” says Scott. “But he was not arrested for anything to do with what he was doing in Scotiabank. There was no risk to anybody, there were no threats, there was no firearm.”
