Hanna, Oyen & Consort RCMP arrest suspect in recent ATM thefts

HANNA- Charges have been laid against a 26-year-old man in relation to recent ATM thefts in both Oyen and Hanna.

The suspect was arrested following a pursuit which occurred on November 24 and involved police resources from several different detachments.

Hanna RCMP have charged Rick Ernest Atzler of Fawcett with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, theft over $5,000, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.

Charges laid by Consort Mounties include various firearms offences, possession of stolen property obtained by crime, and failing to stop for police.

The investigation continues and charges are still pending from Oyen, Coronation and Provost detachments.

Atzler has been remanded in custody to attend court in Hanna on Nov. 28 and in Coronation on Nov. 29.

Police continue to investigate the ATM thefts and are working to identify a second suspect involved.

The RCMP is requesting that any member of the public who was on the road and affected by the pursuit in any fashion to contact the Hanna RCMP at 403-854-3393.
